Your Impact on Climate Change

Overview

Climate change is a global phenomenon that has been happening for a very long time (billions of years), but at the same time the recent warming that the Earth has experienced is something that scientists have never seen before. And most scientists have now come to believe that human beings, through their actions, contribute to global warming in a big way.

For the most part, however, it is actions that we take unnecessarily that can actually contribute to climate change. Every time that you leave the light on in the house, overuse an appliance or simply forget to turn the television off, you are wasting energy that is ultimately affecting the planet in a bad way. The balance that maintains human life on the planet is very fine and that is why it is the individual responsibility of each person to try and minimize the impact that they have on the planet.

Suggested Methods

There are many things that you can do to reduce the impact that you have on climate change, but the most obvious is to simply begin living in a way that conserves energy. Make sure that you turn the lights off when you leave a room and make sure that you are careful with the way you use appliances. Then, when you have to go to the store in order to replace lights (because they've burned out) or appliances (because they've worn down to not being useful anymore), make sure that you buy things that are energy efficient. This not only reduces your impact on climate change, but it also saves you money over the long term.

There are many other methods that people can use as well, but they are only to be used once you have conquered the little steps and are ready for something more. These are optional changes as well, such as changing your diet to include less meat (cows contribute to climate change in a big way) or changing the way you get to work in order to conserve fuel. These are steps that are not easy and are not recommended for everyone, but they are things that you shouldn't even think about until you've made the basic changes that don't even affect your style of living.
